Cryotherapy
Cryotherapy
The cryo sauna is the opposite of a traditional sauna, as it exposes the body to extremely low temperatures, ranging from -120 °C to -170 °C, for a short period.
In the chamber, the temperature drops from -20 °C to as low as -170 °C in just 30 seconds, and then this temperature remains constant for the desired duration. Each treatment lasts between 60 to 180 seconds, and the full therapy typically consists of 10 to 20 sessions.
The cryo sauna operates using liquid nitrogen, which the device transforms into a gaseous state. This unique technology allows the body to tolerate low temperatures for a short time within its comfort zone and enjoy all the positive effects. The cold experienced during the treatment is bearable and much less uncomfortable than, for example, immersing oneself in cold water.
Despite the very low temperatures, our bodies do not freeze because the air inside the cryo sauna chamber is extremely dry. In humid air, these temperatures would undoubtedly be unbearable for the human body.
How Does It Work?
The few-minute treatment creates a shock effect on the entire body. Naturally, there is no risk of frostbite, as we are dealing with an extremely dry cold that produces a sharp, tingling sensation. The core body temperature remains around 36-37 °C, while the skin temperature cools down to about 5 °C. The body senses the cold and knows it must balance this temperature difference. To do this, it mobilizes substances and hormones that have self-healing and anti-inflammatory effects.
For athletes, this leads to faster clearance of lactic acid from the body, resulting in quicker recovery after strenuous workouts.
After the treatment, the body is invigorated. Oxygen supply improves, and waste elimination begins.
The cold triggers the release of adrenaline and endorphins, which is why it is also used as an adjunct therapy for certain neurological issues and depression.
As a result of the cold shock on the body, pain may be alleviated, and the body's self-healing and anti-inflammatory processes can be activated. This has numerous positive effects on the body.
