Eastern medicine
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a collective term for traditional medical practices originating from China, recognized as a complementary medical system in much of the Western world and Europe, while in Asia it is part of primary healthcare.
It is called "traditional" because it has a written and experiential history spanning thousands of years. This knowledge, rooted in a rich past, continues to evolve. It is referred to as "Chinese" because it originates from China, offering a unique medical perspective and healing methods.
Traditional Chinese medicine employs highly refined diagnostic and treatment methods. For a skilled and experienced practitioner, external signs of illness—such as skin changes, eye color, and patient behavior—carry important information, which the practitioner clarifies through questioning and examinations.
Before treatments begin, a traditional Chinese medical examination is conducted, which includes the following assessments:
- Observation of the skin, eyes, lips, hair, movement, mental state, overall physical appearance, and examination of the tongue.
- Analysis of sounds emitted by the patient (coughing, breathing, speech, hiccups, etc.) and smells (skin odor, breath odor, etc.).
- Inquiry about complaints and taking a medical history.
- Pulse examination and palpation, focusing on analyzing the pulse at the wrist.
This is followed by the creation of a treatment plan. Treatment begins after a preliminary discussion with the patient.
